I work with fine stoneware clay, I am attracted by its plasticity and colour as these attributes add depth to my finished work.
I hand throw all my pieces, although
recently, I have been looking into the possibility
of introducing other techniques or even materials.
The first works in my current collection are the fluid
white vases.
I chose a white colour to work with because I felt this worked well with their
strong forms.
The white belt in the middle is adding
movement. Their body and their long and stretched necks
have been manipulated so that they lean asymmetrically.
Grouping these pieces gives the work an animated presence.
After I completed them I started experimenting with other forms.
I discovered that I love working in themes because this gives me the chance
to create fresh ideas and take them further.
Meanwhile, I set up my next project which was to make friendly, casual and
unprecious tableware for all occasions.
I aimed to
find colours that work well as backgrounds for food.
After many months of testing I finalised my choice of glazes.
Occasionally I go back and think of seasonal food presentation ideas so I expect
to be adding new work as and when I am inspired.
Thinking of the functional and aesthetic elements within ceramics my new ideas
are coming from kitchenware.
Here I am aiming to marry
sculptural forms within the domestic setting adding
artistic ideas in how to serve and present food.
